About This Quote

This quote is from the film "The Horse Whisperer", in which Jack Twist, played by Robert Redford, is a broken down rodeo cowboy. Jack's wife has left him and his life seems to be over. He has nothing to live for and he feels like giving up, but one night he has a dream about a horse. After his wife and children leave him and he gets drunk, he goes outside to sleep on the porch.

During his sleep he sees a vision of an old Native American man who tells him that the only way to make things right is to help horses. He tries to help his wife by returning her wedding ring to her (which she has lost), but it doesn't help their marriage much. He then tries to help his children by getting them back into school and making them their homework, but it's no use.

His neighbors tell him that they need a new car and he tries all day to find one for them, but can't find an inexpensive one anywhere. Finally, he finds a horse at the ranch across the road from where he lives, and the horse comes right up to him as if they were old friends. From now on, everything seems to change for Jack Twist.

He starts riding again and helps other people with their horses as well as their small problems such as finding their keys or buying a car for them.
